The Fairest of Seasons
Marathon training season officially began this week. Yahoo!
As I embark on my third straight summer of marathon training, some things remain the same and some things have changed.
I’m still nervous and excited, but this time around, I’m doing things a little differently. I’ve amped up my usual training program to include weekly speedwork (a mix of 800-meter repeats, hill repeats and tempo runs) and I’ve signed up for more in-training races than ever before. And for the first time, I’m running the Chicago Marathon for a charity, Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, and trying to raise $2,000 over the next 18 weeks.
I took my own advice and thoroughly enjoyed my down time after the Flying Pig Half Marathon. (Maybe even taking it a liiiiiitle too far; the jeans are feeling a little snug these days.) But now I’m ready to get back on track. I’m fired up to resume my Saturday morning ritual on the Lakefront Trail, to keep getting stronger and faster and to see just how far I can push myself to achieve my goals.
It’s gonna be a kick-ass summer, Angels. — Mags
