Maybe Treadmills Ain’t So Bad
Last week, I tried to run in the heat, and I ended up with a headache that lasted for a solid week. I realize now that I was dehydrated, but ever since, I’ve been wary of heading out in 95-plus-degree weather. Even at 9 p.m. it’s still in the 90s, and I just can’t bring myself to run. My only other option? The treadmill.
I have access to a very fine treadmill, and a nice big fan to boot. The room that it’s in is chilly and has no humidity. There is even a TV to watch, to distract from the mind-numbing task of running in place. I had to make myself get on it, grumbling and rolling my eyes the whole way. But once I started running, I realized it’s not that bad! In fact, I worked up a good sweat, ran for 4 miles, and my head wasn’t pounding. Success!
I brought my clothes with me again today. I’m going to run on the treadmill, but this time I’m looking forward to it. I know it’s a tool in my arsenal, for when the weather just won’t cooperate with my goals. And there ain’t no shame in that. – Amie
