Bad Angel Rule #89

Ice is Nice.

Every year at the always hellishly hot Bix 7, there’s a station of friendly Iowans handing out sandwich bags filled with ice. These little bags o’ paradise are one of my favorite parts of this race.

Generally, I’ll shove a couple of pieces of ice down the front and back of my sports bra and use the remaining cubes to cool off my face and neck. It provides almost instant relief from relentless heat, and those spare cubes in my bra last for another half mile or so.

Ice is so nice, in fact, that Bad Angel Maggie even asked one of her supporters to have a baggie of cubes waiting for her at mile 10 of the Chicago Marathon last year. Absolutely brilliant.

So keep your eyes peeled for these heroic cubes of heaven on sweltering race days. You’ll be happy that you did. — Aidz
