Rookie Rule #10
Make a Post-Race Plan.
When you’re heading down to a big race – especially when you’re a rookie – pre-race jitters can consume your thoughts. One thing you need to do before you set off to the start line, however, is to plan your after-race meeting location.
Even if you plan to run a race with a friend, there’s a chance you might not finish together, so make sure that everyone knows where to go after they’ve crossed the finish line.
You don’t want to get stuck right at the finisher’s area, and often, race officials will usher you along and move you out of the way. Plus, you need to walk off the miles, ditch your chip and cool down a bit.
So pick a place at the after party. Whether it’s the beer tent, the banana table or the giant inflatable Tide bottle, choose a landmark that everyone is sure to find. That way, you can spend the time after the race enjoying the goodies and recapping your masterful victory instead of stressing about getting swallowed by the crowd. — Aidz
